N.C. Wesleyan to Honor 50 Years of Men's Basketball

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The 2012-2013 season marks the 50th year of men's basketball at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Although the Battling Bishops will be celebrating this Golden Anniversary throughout the entire season, the program has announced special plans to commemorate this milestone with a public ceremony on January 26th, 2013 at halftime of Wesleyan's 4:00pm match-up with USA South foe Ferrum College.

Bishop fans of all ages, including our friends and family in the community, are invited to campus to join the College in honoring its men's basketball tradition. Halftime ceremonies will begin at approximately 4:30 in Everett Gymnasium with the Bishops recognizing former players and coaches in attendance.

This event will attempt to encapsulate a rich history of men's basketball that began in 1963 with inaugural head coach Don Scalf – a Battling Bishop icon for whom the basketball court is named – and has featured a long list of talented players, including the program's first All-American Roger Taylor.

Over five decades, six other coaches have joined with Scalf to produce 11 conference championships, five NCAA Tournament berths, six All-Americans and nearly 600 wins, a milestone the program will be striving to reach this season.

The Department of Athletics encourages everyone to make plans now to attend the festivities on January 26th.
Please come celebrate this noteworthy achievement and show your support for North Carolina Wesleyan men's basketball!
