Rocky Mount, N.C. - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics held its 2012 Athletics Gala on Monday, May 7th, at nearby Rose Hill Plantation. In addition to both silent and live auctions, the evening featured retired men’s basketball coach Dave Odom as the keynote speaker.
Odom, who served as head coach at East Carolina University, Wake Forest University and the University of South Carolina, was a four-time ACC and SEC Coach of the Year during his career and earned over 400 victories on the sidelines. After retiring in 2008, he went to work part-time for his alma mater, Guilford College.
His keynote speech stressed the importance of continuing to develop a strong relationship between North Carolina Wesleyan and the City of Rocky Mount. It highlighed an exciting evening of events designed to provide support for our Battling Bishop student-athletes.
The evening dedicated to “Spreading the Bishop Pride” began at 6:00 p.m. with a reception and silent auction followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. Odom’s address and the always entertaining live auction capped a lovely evening at one of the area’s premier venues. A picturesque countryside estate in Nashville, N.C., Rose Hill features an 18th-century Manor House and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
